Description
What Makes Word Play Different
Many speech therapy materials are focused on isolated drills, worksheets, or screen-based activities. Word Play is different. We’ve built it around foundational life skills and real-life items students recognize and use every day, so carryover is more natural.
Functional Language Meets Gameplay
As students play, they practice key life foundations such as:
- Object-function associations (What does it do?)
- Object-location associations (Where do you find it? Where does it go?)
- Categorization (It belongs to what group?)
- Descriptive language (What does it look like? What is it made of? What are its parts?
- Sentence building and expressive language expansion (from words →phrases→complete thoughts)
How Word Play Works
Each deck focuses on everyday functional categories like kitchen, personal care, household supplies, and more. Cards feature real-life items (e.g., toothbrush, microwave, mop) and include multiple attributes students can compare.
How to Use Word Play
- Shuffle the deck and deal an equal number of cards to each player.
- A player reads the attribute from their top card.
- Other players read the same attribute from their top card.
- The player with the highest value wins the round and collects the cards.
- Play continues until one player has all the cards.
